The Collaborative Map 2015

Exhibited at The Abbotsford Convent, Melbourne

The Collaborative Map is a site-specific work emerging out of The Walking Project, which is a record of a contemporary experience of moving through the spaces, environment and history of the Abbotsford Convent.

In 2015 as part of The Walking Project I conducted tours through the Convent grounds, telling the stories of the layers of history before and after white settlement. On our return I asked participants to record their responses to the site. I provided materials, and a quiet space where people spent time finding a language to record the details and experience of their walk.
I have distilled and curated these images into The Collaborative Map.
By extending the mark-making from within each image the drawings were linked and created a map that gives form to the collaborative experience of walking this area.
I would like to thank everyone who participated in The Walking Project and so generously contributed their images.
