The Archaeology of the Sky 2017

Ten Days On The Island
The Archaeology of the Sky is part of an ongoing project that is connected to the archaeological dig at Kerry Lodge in Launceston, Tasmania.

This work extends the ideas explored in Starmaps 2016 where the pegs and string used to map out the dig site echoed the patterns of the stars in the night sky above.
The technique of drawing lines in space is used by archeologists and astronomers to map earth and sky respectively.
Utilizing this practice in a performative installation at the dig site over a period of six days, I used pegs and string to map the Southern Constellations onto the site. The web of lines that emerged from this process wrapped the site and framed its contours forming a taut network of star patterns.
